We are an interactive media and pedagogies incubator inspired by the Hip Hop archive.

Our Mission

To inspire archival innovation, design educational resources for humanities and computational making in higher learning and apply digital tools in order to publish open-source, interactive media that sits at the intersections of culture, activism, music, and other attractive media practices.

Why we do it

The content we produce is designed to spark and enhance the civic engagement of youth and youth influencers.

Our Story

Four Four Beat Labs is a STEAM-inspired maker space and digital pedagogies incubator. Founded in 2012, we use The OutKast Imagination, culture, music, and new media technologies to teach, produce, and enhance the computational media, coding, and civic engagement capacities of diverse student communities. Our projects are standards-based. They are designed for use by secondary and postsecondary youth/youth influencers.

Since its inception in 2007 as a one-day conference about the relationships between the art of culture and the art of schooling, our aim has remained on pushing the envelope of innovation when Hip Hop is used as a 21st-century ‘technology of education’ across STEAM, computational media, and humanities instruction. We use #HipHopHigherEd to represent our vision. Our projects are critical, creative, and collaborative. They seek to prompt action and shape influencers with awareness and responsibility to produce media that addresses local, national, and global challenges of community sustainability
